Sonar Check of the Intercoastal Waterways...

A spot of good news! Det. Hall informed me last week that the Canals in the Highland Beach area were checked by Sonar with negative results. This means that there is a chance that Emillie is out there! Keep up hope!

Emillie Hoyt was born October 7, 1982 in LaPorte, Indiana. She is the youngest of three children (brothers Aaron and Zachary.) She attended high school in Leavenworth and Lawrence, Kansas. She is a photographer, adept in portraiture and events, a visual artist in a variety of mediums, and has a love for music especially electronic and techno.

Her last known address was in Highland Beach, FL 33487, where she lived with her fiancé. Her last communication with her family was via the phone in late December 2005.

At this time, Detective Craig Hall of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case. To date, there has been no use of her social security number and no record of communication with any of her friends. Familial DNA is listed in a nation-wide database in the event that a corpse should be found that matches her description.

Emillie was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in the fall of 2004. In addition, she was in treatment for addiction the year prior to her disappearance.

Emillie could be described as an intelligent, artistic and caring person. She is loyal to a fault and has a wry sense of humor. Her nearest living relatives reside in Kansas City, KS/MO (mother, Malinda Hoyt and brother Aaron Hoyt) and Portland, OR (brother Zachary Hoyt.) Her father, Gary Hoyt passed away in 1986.

The circumstances of her disappearance are suspect. Emillie held no credit cards or sizable cash assets. She left her cell phone with her fiancé and did not own a car. Her fiancé asserts that she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and that he has had no contact with her since she left.

The search for Emillie began early in January of 2006 when her family was unable to establish contact with her. Initially, the Florida State Police determined that her’s was not a missing persons case as Emillie is an adult and there was no evidence of foul play. Referring to US privacy law, they stated that it was Emillie’s right to disappear. This determination had far-reaching implications, because Emillie was not legally listed as a missing person, her family found that she could not be posted on any of the state funded advocacy websites.

Through the tenacity of a family friend, the Highland Beach Police Department began investigating Emillie’s disappearance in the late summer of 2007, nearly eighteen months after Emillie went missing. With the investigation of Detective Hall, Emillie was officially listed as a missing person and her image was uploaded by state and national advocacy groups.
